Nestled in the lesser-known corners of Indonesia, Pulau Sabu, a small island in the province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. As a photographer, I have always sought out destinations that offer both natural beauty and an opportunity to capture untold stories. Pulau Sabu was no exception—its rugged landscapes, untouched beaches, and vibrant local culture provided the perfect backdrop for my latest adventure. Here’s a glimpse into my photography journey on this fascinating island.
Pulau Sabu is known for its unique blend of dry savannah, rugged hills, and pristine beaches. The island’s landscape is defined by striking contrasts—sun-scorched plains dotted with thorny bushes, rocky coastlines, and lush green pockets tucked into hidden valleys. One of the highlights of my photography journey was visiting the Tana Ai hills, which offered panoramic views of the island. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the golden light cast long shadows over the landscape, creating a perfect scene for capturing both the drama and serenity of the environment.
For landscape shots, I often found myself using a wide-angle lens to capture the vastness of the vistas. The sharp contrasts between light and shadow were a photographer’s dream, particularly during the golden hour when the colors seemed to come alive. The dry season, which coincides with my visit, gave the island a golden hue—dry grasses swayed in the breeze, and the dusty earth beneath my feet created a sense of timelessness.
