The Baliem Valley Cultural Festival is an event to preserve the culture of the people of the Baliem Valley (Hubula, Lani, Yali, Ngalik, Nduga, Walak, etc.) which is generally held in the Jayawijaya regency in August by introducing the culture of the place such as language; folk origin stories; regional dances from each tribe; handicrafts such as; noken, wood carvings, koteka, spears, and sali (wooden tassel skirt); and the culmination of a mock tribal war scenario. The festival has been held since 1989.
